Four Simple Phase To A Healthier And New Lifestyle

Robert C. Atkins M.D.

Born in 1930, Dr. Atkins received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical School in 1955. His then went on to specialize cardiology. Dr Atkins first published his ground breaking weight loss book in 1972, stressing natural foods, healthy fish, vegetables and fruits. He advised staying away from sugar-rich, processed foods that had become so prevalent in most US diets. He especially advised people to stay away from white breads, white rice and potatoes, which were all high in sugar and not nutritious.

While medical experts were recommending low-fat, high-carbohydrate diets, Dr Atkins suggested people who wanted to lose weight should do the exact opposite. His philosophy was that up to two thirds of calories could come from fat - more than double the usual recommendation - and people should eat meats and cheeses instead of breads, pastas, and even fruits and vegetables.

Dr. Atkins was the founder of The Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine and Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. He also authored more than a dozen health and nutrition books. In 1999, Dr. Atkins established the Robert C. Atkins Foundation to finance diet research. Besides his work on nutrition, Dr Atkins also argued that ozone gas can kill cancer cells and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and he claimed to have treated more than 1,000 patients with ozone therapy. The ozone treatment is a common alternative therapy in Germany and some other nations but has not gained acceptance in the United States.

Dr Atkins died on April 17, 2003 at New York's Weill-Cornell Medical Center at the age of 72, he suffered a severe head injury on 8 April 2003 after falling on an icy pavement while walking to his office in New York.
